Jeff H. Greenwald, M.F.T., is an internationally recognized sports psychology consultant/elite mental coach and licensed therapist. He possesses more than twenty years of experience working with athletes across all sports.
Honored as a 2019 Northern California Hall of Fame inductee, Jeff uses his own experience as a winning player to help athletes, performing artists and executives find the keys to fearless performance.
Jeff's personal coaching, seminars, best-selling books, audio programs, and online courses are popular resources utilized by thousands of players and athletes worldwide.
In his twenties, frustrated with his performance as a modestly ranked professional tennis player, Jeff felt drawn to learn more about how psychological influences were impacting his game. He earned master’s degrees in both clinical and sports psychology. In the process, he discovered the fundamental principles of athletic performance, which propelled him from a moderately successful tennis player to No. 1 in the world in his age group and captured two ITF world titles.
In Jeff’s best-selling book, The Best Tennis of Your Life, and through his best-selling mental training programs, including, Fearless Tennis Platinum Course and Getting Tight, numerous podcast appearances, blog articles, and through his direct one-on-one coaching and workshops, he’s propelled thousands of athletes and professionals to similar breakthrough successes
Jeff has worked closely with Dr. Jim Loehr, author of The Power of Full Engagement and CEO of the Human Performance Institute. Jeff trained in cognitive behavioral psychology as well as what is now called the “new wave” in psychology—Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Jeff utilizes this knowledge, in combination with his own experience in achieving competitive sports success, when coaching others.
This two-pronged approach enables Jeff to identify the mental and physical factors impacting a person’s performance, on the court or in the boardroom.
Mental Edge International grew out of Jeff’s desire to help struggling athletes improve their game and reach their full potential. He also realized that everything he taught athletes about mental mindset techniques applied to his executive coaching clients who face stressful situations at work, where exuding confidence and a level head can make or break their ability to achieve their goals. His work in this area is rapidly expanding.
For almost two decades, Jeff has served on the speaking bureau for Wilson Sporting Goods and as a consultant for the United States Tennis Association. He also consults with or has been engaged as a speaker/Mental Coach at Stanford Men's Tennis, UC Berkeley Men's Tennis, UCSF, Claremont McKenna, College Park, Missouri Athletic Club, Nelson Staffing, UCLA Medical Center, Merrill Lynch, the Young Presidents Organization, the Lawn Tennis Association, and the Czech Federation.
Interviews with Jeff have appeared in feature articles in the New York Times, USA Today, Tennis Magazine, and a range of online publications, including in the U.K. and Czech Republic. He lives in Northern California and has two teenage children, both of whom are highly competitive athletes in soccer and tennis. Jeff consults with numerous ranked juniors, pros, and college athletes in all sports.
“Jeff has the rare ability to both inspire and teach people how to be their best when it counts. Few in the world of sport psychology have earned and merited such universal respect.”
