The Untethered Athlete Four Dimensions of Performance

  • Plays safe when tight
  • Gives up

  • Insight into fear and outcome thinking Recognizes negative patterns
  • Honestly assesses strengths and weaknesses
  • Aware of tendency to play safe when tight

Athletes are committed to utilizing new strategies and have begun to take ownership over their state and are placing their intentions as more important than the outcome. They are still in a learning mode and slip back to old patterns but a new level of “integrity” and commitment to the process is now in motion.

  • Establishes specific plan Self-determined
  • Permission to miss

  • Moves on from errors quickly Controls focus
  • Remains positive Increased resiliency

Athletes are in a balanced state of acceptance and full engagement in the process. Thoughts are limited and managed through process of meta-cognition. Total commitment to the process and fully present in their body. Feel at one with their surroundings and there is no self-consciousness or doubt present.
